Tudor Outside Mount Cornice Kits
Since there is no need to glue or staple the fabric to the cornice,
you are able to change the color/pattern of the fabric as often as you change the decor in your home - it's like having a whole new cornice!
Please to see how easy it really is.

Light weight, expanded polystyrene (Styrofoam) sections are simply glued together with a full sized low temperature glue gun (200 - 250 degrees Fahrenheit)
to create your special cornice for any size window or door.
Watch our
to see how it's done.
We do not recommend using a mini glue gun because you will not be able to apply enough glue quick enough to achieve a good bond.

How do I determine what height (drop) to order?
Instead of three contoured surfaces, as is on the Avalon cornice face, our Tudor Cornice Kits have a flat front surface for a plain, but elegant look.
The Tudor Cornice is offered in 12"/9"/12" and 15"/12"/15" drop (height) in any width that you need (up to 50’).
The 12"/9"/12" Tudor Cornice looks great on small bathroom & kitchen windows, in children’s rooms, and on standard size windows and over sliding glass doors.
The 12"/9"/12" Tudor Cornice is a 12" drop on each end, and transitions to a 9" drop in the center sections(s).
The 15"/12"/15" Tudor Cornice looks wonderful on very wide windows or in rooms with very tall ceilings.
The 15"/12"/15" Tudor Cornice is a 15" drop on each end, and transitions to a 12" drop in the center sections(s).
Here's an easy way to determine what height works best for you using a regular 8 ½ X 11 sheet of paper.
Have someone hold the paper lengthwise so that the longest side of the paper runs the length of your opening.
They'll probably need to use a step stool or ladder to hold the paper in the approximate location where the finished cornice would go.
From across the room, you would observe how it looks. This simulates our 12"/9"/12" drop cornice.
Next have them rotate the paper so that it's up and down like you would normally use it.
This simulates our 15"/12"/15" drop cornice.
If this looks just right, you'll want to order our 15"/12"/15" cornice kit.
How do I determine what length to order?
To determine what length Tudor Cornice to order, measure the inside of your opening and add 1-4" on each side - this is called the overlap.
If your opening has molding around it, measure the outside of the molding on the left side of your opening to the outside of the molding on the right side of the opening and add 1".
But, if you have a curtain rod or vertical blind rail that your cornice will be covering, measure the length of the rail and add 1".
Pick the longest measurement from above that applies to your opening, and this will be the inside measurement of your Tudor cornice.
The outside length of your Tudor Cornice is the inside measurement PLUS the thickness of the 2 end caps.
Since each Tudor end cap is approximately 2" thick in the center, the outside length is approximately the inside measurement PLUS 4".
Or, you can minimize the number of extension kits ordered based upon the sum of your window lengths.

Can the cornice be cut specifically for my opening?
As explained above, the sections that are glued together are 16" in length.
Most times the length of the opening plus the overlap on each end results in a desired length that is not a multiple of 16", requiring one of the pieces to be cut to the appropriate length.
The process that you would use to cut one of the cornice pieces is to:
Cut the pieces with something like a drywall saw, a hack saw, an electric knife, or a utility knife.
Regardless of how careful you are, the cut will not be smooth, flat, and straight, which is needed in order to have a good bond when glued.
After the piece is cut, stand the piece that you will be using upright on the smooth end, so that the rough end is facing upward.
Cover the rough end with aluminium foil.
Using your heated electric iron, pat the aluminium foil to melt the styrofoam flat, smooth, and straight.
While this is a fairly simple process, you may not wish to try this on your own, so why not let us cut your cornice kits to length for you for only $2.00 per cornice!
How are the cornices attached to the wall?
5" brackets and corresponding end caps are provided with our kits.
You may wish to substitute 3" brackets for the standard 5" brackets to move your cornice closer to the wall.
Learn more about choosing .
While our 3" or 5" brackets will be perfect most of the time, occasionally you may need custom made brackets for your application.
We have made custom brackets as short as ⅛" and as long as 8" for our customers.
We will make them for you using the standard 5" brackets that are provided with your kits; this price includes removing styrofoam from the end caps if shorter than 5",
or providing extension pieces that you will glue onto the end caps to accomodate brackets that are longer than 5". For the handy person, here's how we make them:
cut the bracket using tin snips so that the two pieces are approximately the same length
make the brackets the desired length
if you are making brackets longer than 5", for example 6" brackets, cut a piece of strap aluminum (1½" wide X ⅛" thick available at most hardware stores) at least 1" longer than the desired bracket size less 5".
If we are making 6" brackets, we would cut the strap aluminum 6" (desired length) - 5" (standard bracket size) + 1" = 2" mimimum.
if you are making brackets that are shorter than 5", then cut the brakcet accordingly so that the 2 flat pieces overlap each other to achieve the desired length.
using pop rivets, attach the pieces together. Make sure that:
the bracket pieces are pointing in the right direction, and
the pop rivet heads are at the bottom of the bracket pointing upwards.
If your application requires custom brackets
(and modified end caps), add your cornice kit(s) to the shopping cart first, and note the number of brackets you will be receiving.

Installing individual cornices on each window on a bay window results in an unprofessional looking project.
Installing a continuous cornice on all of the windows in a bay could be very tricky because of cutting the Styrofoam angles to match each angle in the bay.
Our Bay Window Adapters are unique; this is the only easy solution to that tricky bay window dilemma. Our Bay Window Adapters make it super easy to accommodate those tough to measure angles.
Each Bay Window Adapter includes:
2- 16" Bay Window Adapters
4- 5" bracket
screws and anchors
Estimating What Size Cornice Kit to Order For A Bay Window
Looking at Diagram 2 measure (from left to right):
The distance from the left side of the left window to Point A - the center of the left corner (example: 39")
The distance from Point A (the center of the left corner) to Point B (the center of the right corner) (example: 68")
The distance from Point B (the center of the right corner) to the right side of the right window (example: 39")
The total distance is:
39" + 68" + 39" + 2" (left overlap) + 2" (right overlap) = 150"
Since each of the two Bay Window Adapters is 16", subtract 32":
150" - 32" = 118"
Therefore, you would order a Cornice Kit for 113"-128" openings PLUS your Bay Window Adapter.
If you wish to substitute 3" brackets for the 5" brackets that come with the kits, check Substitute 3" brackets.

Installing individual cornices on each window on a corner window results in an unprofessional looking project.
Installing a continuous cornice on both of the windows in a corner could be very tricky because of cutting the Styrofoam angles to match the angle in the corner.
Our Corner Window Adapters are unique; this is the only easy solution to that tricky corner window dilemma.
Our Corner Window Adapters make it super easy to accommodate those tough to measure angles.
Our Corner Window Adapters are used for a full 90 degree angle in a corner window.
Each Corner Window Adapter includes:
1- 16" Corner Window Adapter
2- 5" brackets
screws and anchors
Estimating What Size Cornice Kit to Order For A Corner Window
Looking at the finished Corner Cornice above, measure (from left to right):
The distance from the left side of the left window to the center of the corner (example: 76")
The center of the corner to the right side of the right window (example: 40")
The total distance is:
76" + 40" + 2" (left overlap) + 2" (right overlap = 120"
Since the Corner Window Adapter is 16", subtract 16":
120" - 16" = 104"
And finally, we need to take into consideration the brackets. If you order 5" brackets, then we subtract 10"; if you order 3" brackets, subtract 6".
So if you order 5" brackets for this example, then:
104" - 10" = 94"
Therefore, you would order a Cornice Kit for 80"-96" openings PLUS your Corner Window Adapter.
If you wish to substitute 3" brackets for the 5" brackets that come with the kits, check Substitute 3" brackets.
